"Duck Season" takes you into one particular Sunday morning in the lives of two fourteen-year old boys, Flama and Moko. With their neighbor Rita and pizza delivery boy Ulises, they create their own adventures to overcome their boredom. "Duck Season" explores the loneliness of childhood, the effects of divorce and the curious power of love and friendship. Winner of numerous awards, including an unprecedented 11 Ariel Awards, the film was produced by Christian Valdelievre, Lulu Productions and Cinepantera and executive produced by Jaime Ramos. Warner Independent Pictures and Alfonso Cuaron's Esperanto Films will distribute.Ex-Beat Junkie and Dilated Peoples refugee Babu takes the time-honored hip-hop tradition of the master mix and twists it up a! bit. A well-traveled and well-respected man, the Los Angeles turntablist is an emcee's DJ who got his start during the early '90s, a fact reflected in Duck Season, Vol. 1's almost lazily nostalgic selection. Overall, the production work reigns supreme over fairly mediocre lyricism. However, the album's old-school feel is strengthened by Babu's tight mixing skills. Not only are the songs well blended, he actually chops things up a bit with a taste of cut 'n' scratch and some nice backspin techniques. Random snippets of dialogue and sound effects tie into the Duck Season theme. New York is repped to full effect by solid cuts from Bumpy Knuckles, M.O.P., and the Beatnuts, while Phil Da Agony and Jurassic 5 hold it down for the West. --Rebecca LevineThe Oregon Daily Emerald, the student newspaper at the University of Oregon, is pleased to bring Duck fans a very special, hard-bound, coffee-table pictorial book. From the Board edition.Who would have thought that an alligator and a duck could be best friends? Bill the Duck and Aldo the Alligator are ruffling feathers and rewriting all the rules with their crazy antics and unusual friendship in Sitting Ducks. Now the entire first season of all their adventures is together in one egg-citing collection, featuring over 5 hours of wild fun and surprises that will have everyone laughing their tails off. Come fly with Sitting Ducks. It's guaranteed to quack you up!Unlike the mostly NY-centric focus by other DJs, Babu has always made sure his West Coast peers get equal time. While NY stalwarts like Talib Kweli ("Raise the Bar"), KRS-One ("Underground"), and Gang Starr ("Deadly Habits") are in the mix, so are the Bay Area's Planet Asia ("Right or Wrong") and L.A.'s Chace Infinite ("Do For Self"), Defari ("Behold My Life" remix), and of course, Dilated Peoples, who pop up! three times, most effectively on Rakaa's solo joint, "Ends to! Means." Duck Season 2 is markedly consistent in sound and pacing, which, on one hand, bespeaks Babu's expert mixing skills. However, it'd also be nice to hear Babu reach out more, beyond just the underground independent world, and diversify the sound of his mix-CD with different kinds of artists besides certified mic rippers. Duck Season 2 preaches effectively to the choir, but Babu could stand to get his message to a bigger congregation too. --Oliver WangDuck Commander Phil Robertson's Ten Commandments DVD is perfect to add to your hunting video library. Claude Lelouch may never be the most profound director in the world, but he sure knows how to whip up a catchy distraction. And Now Ladies & Gentlemen finds Lelouch in a skippy, unpredictable mode. Jeremy Irons, who seems to be enjoying himself enormously, is a thief who sets out on a sailing voyage, only to fetch up in Morocco after he blacks out at the helm. There he meets sultry singer Patricia Kaas (her first acting role); it turns out they both might have brain tumors. Did someone say this is a romantic comedy? It is, complete with musical numbers (Kaas glides through a cozy cross-section of French pop music, including the theme from A Man and a Woman, Lelouch's '60s smash). The movie's all over the place, and it spins its wheels for the final half-hour, but there are cert! ain kinds of romantics who will find this sort of thing irresistible. --Robert HortonLadies and Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones finally comes to DVD. This legendary Rolling Stones concert film, shot over four nights in Texas during the "Exile ON Main Street" tour in 1972, was released in cinemas for limited engagements in 1974 and has remained largely unseen since. Now, restored and remastered, Ladies and Gentlemen makes its first authorized appearance on DVD. This is one of the finest Rolling Stones concerts ever captured on film and features outstanding performances of classic tracks from the late '60s and early '70s.
